Context

In 2027 the European Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) will shine its first light on the sky. The high angular resolution and the great collecting capacity associated with the extreme sensitivity of the instruments of the ELT will allow unprecedented observations of the regions of star formation, exoplanetary systems and small distant bodies of the Solar System. In this perspective, various French laboratories are strongly involved at the technical and scientific level in the consortia of all the ELT instruments for the realization of these instruments and their scientific exploitation. For many years, the French community has developed a key expertise on the study of the initial conditions of planetary formation, the search for exoplanets, the atmospheric characterization of giant and telluric exoplanets, and the search for biomarkers.

Goals

Within the framework, we are organizing a topical workshop about the study of "Planetary Formation and Exoplanets with the ELT" in the fall of 2022. Our main objectives are:

  • to inform the French community about the status, schedule, modes and performances of the MORFEO/MICADO, HARMONI, METIS, MOSAIC, ANDES and PCS instruments,
  • to present and revisit together the scientific cases, samples, strategies of observation, calibration, data analysis and interpretation tools of the programs dedicated to the study of the "Planetary Formation and Exoplanets",
  • to federate and mutualize our efforts, our tools and our strategy for the preparatory work on the ELT programs dedicated to this topic within the framework of the guaranteed time and the open time. This includes in particular work on source selection, simulation and data analysis tools and calibrations, preparatory observations involving different observational techniques, but also synergies of our programs with those of space instruments and missions (ALMA, Gaia, VLT/VLTI-2030, JWST, PLATO, NGST...). The key is to optimize the scientific return for our community and our observation programs in guaranteed and open time on the ELT.

Pré-inscriptions & inscriptions

Pre-registration:

  • You can pre-register from June 1, 2022 to July 31st, 2022 on the scienceconf.org website: Registration. Scienceconf: For those who don't have a scienceconf account yet, you have to create one when you register.

Validation of the registration:

  • if you are permanent, to validate it, it will be necessary to be pre-registered (on the site scienceconf.org: Registration) and to pay the registration fee (156.00 euros TTC) before July 31st, 2022 on the site Azur Colloque now open.
  • For non-permanents, the registration fee is free. For non-permanent participants, it is also possible to request that the travel expenses be covered during your pre-registration. However, it will be necessary to plan and validate your mission before September 15, 2022.

Nights, breakfasts, lunches, dinners and coffee breaks are covered by the workshop.

Venue

The workshop will take place in person over two full days from November 8 to November 10, 2022 at the CNRS Villa Clythia, located at 2754 Av. Henri Giraud, 83600 Fréjus.

  • Access: To come to the Villa, you will find the information for access on the following link.Carbon footprint: We encourage you to plan your trip to minimize your environmental impact by using the simulation tool developed by the Labo1point5 group.
  • Health situation: The organizing committee is closely following the obligations due to the pandemic situation. Participants must have a valid health pass.
  • Venue: The Villa Clythia has a conference room with a capacity of 100 people in normal time, and several meeting rooms for parallel discussions. Dinner and lunch will also be held at the Villa and will be provided by the workshop.
